Our piece encompases the negative side of social media and focuses on privacy concerns. The user will place their hand on the front-facing panel, as to “lock” their information, thinking it will be secure. This triggers the lock to click into place. The person will have the misconception that they have “locked” up their information. However, a trap door on the opposite-facing side will open, revealing personal information about their life. The message is to be careful when using social media applications because it is easier than people think to steal confidential information. The piece is supposed to invoke feelings of insecurity and vulnerability because the person is unknowingly leaving themselves exposed. We hope this motivates people to take precautions before entering personal information into applications and to be knowledgeable about who the information is going to and what will be done with it.
